Review: Etude House Color In Liquid Lips

Hello again :)

Today I shall be reviewing the recently released liquid lipsticks by Etude House.
I purchased two shades from www.jolse.com for $9.98 USD each.

The lipsticks remind me highly of the Dior Addict Fluidsticks and not too far after these were released, Innisfree also produced a similar product known as the Real Fluid Rouge. I'm assuming they were all trying to aim for a similar concept in the sense of a liquid lipstick/gloss in a lipstick-like tube where the actual color of the product can be seen through the clear packaging.

Here are the swatches featured by the Etude House adverts. There are 20 shades all up.

The two shades I chose were OR202 Peach in Dream and PK006 Always in Pink.

As you can see the original colour is shown through the clear container, it is made to look like a lipstick bullet however the product is actually opened by a twist cap and is applied with a unique doefoot applicator. The doefoot also has a hole in the middle which I'm guessing is there to catch excess product but I am not a big fan of this type of design for this moussey formula, I shall explain in detail below.

Here are the two shades swatched on the back of my hand, the pigmentation translates well onto the skin.

Now for the actual lip swatches, here are my bare lips without anything applied.

The first shade I have is a light pastel coral peach shade - OR202. I can compare the color to MAC Ravishing, except in a liquid form.

The next shade I have is a blue-toned mid-tone bright pink - PK006.

This shade is also worn by Krystal Jung on the promotional advertisement, however it swatches a bit more blue-based and neon on my lips.

Overall Thoughts

I was quite excited to purchase these as I thought it would be a cheaper alternative to the original Dior Fluid Sticks, however I feel that the formula of the Etude house is more mattifying and less glossy. It reminds me of the Innisfree creamy tint lip mousse in the sense that it has the same texture. I don't usually find mousse formulas too comfortable to wear on the lips, they feel a teeny bit grainy and can accentuate dry patches and will definitely catch onto flaky areas.

In terms of application, it is difficult to get an even application with the doe foot, I find it easier to use the finger and pat it on for a sheerer tint or a lip brush for accuracy. Applying it with the doe foot applicator can make it quite messy as I feel the hole in the middle makes it hard to get an even finish with the color, some areas look like they have more product than others. I feel this type of special applicator works well for glossy formulas or oil formulas but not for mousse, matte formulas.

On the bright side, the pigmentation is amazing and true to what is shown by the bottle. I do also love the packaging, some may perceive it as childish but I think it's girly, cute and fun. The scent actually reminds me of icecream, if you have ever tried those japanese icecream things wrapped in mochi, this is exactly what it smells like!

Pros

  • Large color selection and a great variety of shades to choose from
  • Pigmentation is great, what you see in the bottle is what you get on your lips
  • Smells lovely, like icecream
  • If you like creamy matte finishes you will love this
  • Cute packaging
  • Affordable price
  • To obtain a tint, you can apply by patting with the finger
Cons

  • The swatches on the advertisements make it look more balmy and glossy, which it is not at all.
  • Difficult to apply and obtain a beautiful finish with the unique doe foot applicator.
  • Accentuates dry patches and flakiness
  • Does not leave a stain and is not long lasting
  • People who want a moisturizing and glossy finish will not like this product
Would I repurchase? The formula is my biggest downfall for this product...so, probably not. However it is not a bad product by any means and I can see many people loving this provided they enjoy wearing lipsticks with a matte creamy finish. My overall rating for the Etude House Color in Liquid Lips

3.5/5

Thank you so much for reading and visiting my blog :) and as always, comments and questions are more than welcome!

Love, Allee
